Some folk think that obeying God and His word has to do with being under His control. Of course, that's what it does. And guess what? It's good for you. That's right. It's good for you to cultivate the habit of obeying God. It is good for you to obey His ordinances as stated in His word - the scriptures, that is. Many people don't seem to realise that being under His control via obedience to His statue and ordinances serves some purposes that is of great advantage. Come to think of it folks, when you do what the LORD says, at first, it may seem as if you are being made to exercise control over areas of your life that an average human would have love to develop loose habit. Being loose sure feels good. On the other hand, exercising control involves discipline and restraint. Have you ever filed a complaint against car manufacturers about installing breaks in your car? I mean, couldn't all the pedals be accelerators? Why should you complain? Travelling in a car without break no matter how fast and smooth it runs - is risky. So why then do people complain about the self-control and restraint God's word encourages? Is it because they prefer destruction to life? Or is it because they love consequences (or repercussions) to rewards?
Of course, endeavouring to obey God's laws will warrant appreciable degree of restraint and self-control on your part. Bringing yourself to do His will is like a form of control. This inadvertently brings you under God's control. But what is bad in that? Staying under His control puts you in control. Have thought of it that way yet? For instance, even though material things are integral part of human existence, one needs not run out of control in their pursuit. Likewise, sexual relationship is an integral aspect of life; yet, one needs to watch one's sexual appetite. Do not forget that inability to keep libido under control led to the fall of Samson. You are better able to be in control when you place yourself under God's control. Lack of control will lead to laxity. Complacency will be entertained in the area of pursuit of material things. Passion will assume lordship over the soul. Lust will consume the entire being.
Don't be so quick to arrogate contempt to the LORD's control through His word. Believe me, His laws and ordinances do have their purposes. He stays in control, you stay in control. You stay in control, your approach to things in life will be based on moderation and good discretion. Keep in mind, money, passion, fame, and what have you that mankind pursue are good servants. But they are bad masters. Stay under His control and allow Him to renew the spirit of your mind. Your attitude and the way you view things will change. And it will be in your best interest.
God bless
