The silence of God should not be mistaken as nonchalance, helplessness or stupidity.  Lucifer can attest to this, one might say.
Who is Lucifer?  He is the one usually referred to as Satan.  Satan means enemy of God.  His name as Lucifer, and he was as an archangel created by God.  He radiates light like a luminous body.  God created him with exceedingly great beauty, and bestow on him vast intelligence that other creatures of God (be it angel or human beings) are not able to match.  Among the angels of God, there is some sort of hierarchy.  Even though all angels are spirit beings, they were not created with the same ability and power.  And they do not perform the same role.

All spirit beings, regardless of their God-given ability or power, are subject to the Most High God.  The Most High God gives the overall sense of direction to the host of heaven.  He also is the one who gives specific instructions to each of the spirit beings.  Only He receives worship, praise and adoration from the angels.  (And, in fact, only He deserves it.  He, and none other, is worthy of praise and worship).

The hierarchy among angelic sons of God can be attributed to the difference in their ability, power and role.  As a result of the hierarchy among the spirit beings, it is not least expected that some angels do have some degree of respect for their fellow angels.  Lucifer, being an archangel, occupied a position of authority and respect among his fellow spirit beings.  Even though he had esteemed status among the angels, all he deserves and gets is respect from his fellow angels.  No spirit being is expected to worship him.  In fact, he deserves no worship.  Afterall, he, like other beings, is a creature of God.  Only Him occupies the highest position in the hierarchy of creation.  That is why He is known as the Most High God.  The power, the status, the glory, the honour, and all He stands for is unique and unmatchable.  This reality is awe-inspiring, and praiseworthy.  God is untouchable and cannot be questioned.  He is sovereign.  He is an embodiment of mysteries.  His qualities and power are infinite and inexplicable.  God created vast numbers of angels, and He has reasons for doing that.  He created angels is not only to reflect His glory in their being, also to continually sing and declare His majesty.

The respect and authority Lucifer commanded among his fellow spirit beings is quite rare.  Not many angels can lay claim to the same level of dignity and honour.  In fact, very few spirit beings are created to be archangels.  Despite this honour, Lucifer was not contented.  His special God-given qualities began to fuel ungodly ambitions.  He realised the extent of the power and attribute that the Most High God leave at his disposal, and allowed this reality to breed arrogance and pride in him.  It was just a question to time before he began to make attempt to arrogate superiority to himself.  He was no longer contented with mere respect that is reserved for an archangel of his status, he now wanted to occupy the highest position of all creation - the position of the Most High God.  The sinister idea first started in Lucifer's mind as a thought.  Then he entertained it rather than resisting it.  Then he allowed it to become an obsession.  His abstract obsession with the throne of God was later transformed into concrete actions.  He abused his position among his fellow spirit beings by mobilizing one-third of the angels to rebel against God.  Lucifer then led his faction of angels to wage against God in an attempt to overthrow Him.  But, not much of a surprise, his attempt to usurp the throne of God failed.

Of course, pride goes a fall.  Did the scripture not state in James 4:6 that
"God resists the proud"?  Even though, the Most High God allowed him to retain some of his special qualities, Lucifer was stripped of his honour and esteemed status among the angels.  No longer was recognised as a honourable angel of light.  He ceased enjoying acceptance and prestige before God.  His conduct earned him the name Satan - enemy of God.  He is to bear this name and stigma through the ages.  The Most High God could readily and easily wipe him out of existence.  A simple word of command would have brought about instant destruction of Satan.  Afterall, some of God's creation came forth out of words of command:
"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light...... And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.  And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after this kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after this kind: and God saw that it was good." (Genesis 1:3,11-12)

Wiping Satan out on the spot might seem right.  God has the authority and power to do that.  Besides, Satan merits such treatment.  But the Most High God did not wipe him out.  Rather, He banished him from His presence till an appointed time when he will be duly dealt with.  Of course, God could assign the task of ultimate destruction of Satan to any of his spirit being.  But no, He didn't.  This is personal.  God will take it upon Himself to do justice to Satan.  The ultimate end of Satan and his cohorts is no secret - that hideous fiery place known as the lake of fire! (Revelation 20:10).  By the way, the faction of angels who joined Satan in rebelling against God were also stripped of their angelic status, hence they have always been referred to as demons.  Anytime Satan and his demons are confronted with reality of where they will wind up (in lake of fire), they feel terribly soured and agitated.  The feeling of apprehension is discernible.

Lots of questions come to mind upon pondering on these things.  Satan is reputed to be a highly intelligent creature.  True, there is no doubt about that.  But didn't he realise that God has direct access to the mind and heart of all His creatures?  Did Satan overlook the fact that as the sinister idea race through his mind, they might not escape God's notice?  He even had the audacity to mobilize some of God's angel right under His nose.  What was he thinking of?  That it escaped God's notice?  Didn't he realise that there is nothing going on within the framework of God's creation that He is not capable of monitoring?  God created Satan.  He knew how he created him.  He knew what made him so special.  Was Satan thinking that there are some faculties in his being that is inaccessible by the Most High God.  Was Satan thinking he was invisible in the presence of God?  Or was his he so obsessed with his sinister ambition, he actually threw caution into the winds.  Did he fail to keep in mind the extent of God's powers and qualities?  When at first he conceived the sinister idea, one would expect to see something happen from God's end.  Something that will indicate that He was quite cognisant of Satan and his intentions.  Disapproval or reprove maybe.  Still nothing happened from God's end even when Satan began to go about the task of mobilizing some of the spirit beings.  Most have thought God was sleeping or slack, or what?  Regardless of what he was thinking or not thinking, it is too late now.  Judgement has passed on Lucifer by the Most High God.  The only thing being awaited is the day and time when the sentence will be carried out.  The book of revelations is an excellent source of what is to come.

Believe me, the Most High God is not to be taken for granted.  Even when it seems as though He is slack or nonchalant or silent or not-conscious-of-what-is-going-on, He is still a mighty force to be reckoned with.  Are you aware of the fact that the silence of God is for certain purposes that He himself knows and determines?  God may choose not to be noisy and impulsive.  Nonetheless, He is ever alert.

God bless.
